Our neck of the woods is criss-crossed with
mountain bike trails. Many of our winter cross-country
trails double as summer mountain bike trails
and we have miles and miles of Forest Service
and old logging roads. Looking for a paved trail?
Completed sections of the Gitchi-Gami State Trail
parallel Highway 61 and offer smooth riding with
great views of Lake Superior. The North Shore
has terrain and variety for every level of rider
on countless scenic trails.
Load up your
bikes and head north to Caribou Highlands Lodge
at Lutsen Mountains. Ride right from the resort
at the renowned Lutsen Mountains Bike Park,
head to Superior's shores for easy riding or
into the woods for a morning of exploring.
Our suggestion for the perfect day of summer
vacation - enjoy a hearty breakfast at Tracks,
grab your gear and a box lunch from Caribou Crossing,
ride, ride, ride and then return to the resort
for a swim in our outdoor pool and some relaxation
in one of our spas. Recount your day around an
evening bonfire. Perfect!
Upon completion,
this paved trail will run from Two Harbors
to Grand Marais! Currently completed sections
include a small portion in Two Harbors, the
longest section from Gooseberry Falls State
Park to Beaver Bay, and a section each in Schroeder
and Tofte and the two miles approaching Grand
Marais.

Ride the
grass covered trails in an easy, level cross-country
ski trails,
then continue through rolling maple hills for

Peak & Tofte Trail Tofte
Bike and
hike this there-and-back easy trail to Carlton
Peak. Ride through meadows and forests 1.5
miles to the base of Carlton Peak, then make

Superior's Shore, parallels Highway 61, ultimately
leading to the Onion River.
- Onion River Road Lutsen
It’s best to drive the first 4 miles

The trail heads north for 3 miles through
a pine, cedar and birch forest and then intersects
with more difficult trails.

Upper and Lower Ridge Runs offer shorter alternatives.
Or you can shuttle to Babineau Corners on the
north end and pick a variety of different downhill
descents back to Lake Superior.
